Here, there, and everywhere
Winter wonderland – Saturday, December 22nd, 2012
So obviously I didn’t take this picture myself, but I included it because we did something awesome and it made me so happy I wanted to share. Charlie has no memories of snow, so today his grandparents, uncle, The Scientist and I took him for a drive into the mountains of Arizona. Charlie and I ran out into the woods as soon as we got out of the car, smiling and laughing and throwing snowballs at each other. We built a snowman and he tasted snow and it was THE BEST.
Saguaro cactus, on a walk with Charlie and The Scientist. Or, as it shall forever be known in my mind, the walk I went on where I didn’t fall into a cactus. As opposed to the one where I did. Where I got a spine stuck so deep in my finger it hit a nerve and was causing numbness and I had to go to the doctor. And was told there was nothing to do except wait a few weeks until it clears up on its own, but here’s a tetanus shot for your troubles. Never a dull moment, folks.
I remember when I was a little girl I would be so excited on Christmas Eve that it took forever for me to fall asleep. Charlie asked me to put him to bed around 8:30, and we only made it through one book before he was fast asleep. Such a good little dude.

Necklace in the shape of Idaho, a gift from my parents. I don’t ever want to live in my home state again, but I do miss it.
Jet setter – Wednesday, December 26th, 2012
Hours of uninterrupted knitting. No internet to distract me. If only every day included a plane trip.
Dark horse – Thursday, December 27th, 2012
If you asked me on the 24th which Christmas gift I thought would be Charlie’s favorite, I would have guessed the pelican eel, or maybe the giant boat from Santa, which actually floats. But clothes? I never would have guessed! We bought him a shark hoodie, complete with eyes, a fin, and teeth, and I think the only time he’s taken it off is at bedtime.
Come on, Golden Gophers – Friday, December 28th, 2012
Texas Tech vs. The University of Minnesota. We always cheer for the Big 10.
