What’s on my needles

mara tape measure

Mara, Quince and Co. Lark in Sabine

Mara: Is this freaking thing done yet? No, no it isn’t. The rows are so ridiculously long now (569 stitches and still growing) that I can knit for hours and see almost no progress. I’m into the second of the three additional skeins of yarn I bought – it’s a good thing I bought that third skein. I’m not sure I’ll be 100% happy with the length of the ribbing when I’ve gone through the yarn I have, but at this point I so do not care. I am not ordering any more yarn.

ulmus

Ulmus, Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Lightweight in Waterlilies and Mossay

Ulmus: I made a little progress on this, but not much. This week I felt like I spent a lot less time knitting than normal.

sock heel

Garter rib toe up socks (pattern is my own), Madelinetosh Sock in Tern

Socks for The Scientist: We have a heel! I’ve been feeling really bad about these socks taking so long. It’s funny, because when I think about knitting socks I always dread it and swear up and down it’s the most boring thing ever, but when I actually work on them I realize they aren’t so bad.

Herbivore: No progress

Abbi: No progress

What’s off my needles

Nothing. Hopefully next week Mara will be done.

Current obsessions

Although I’m not usually one to set goals for myself in the New Year, I have been toying with making 2013 a year of crafty self-improvement. I’m not ready to talk in much detail about it yet, but I’m thinking about a few techniques I’ve never tried but would like to learn, like magic loop and colorwork, and challenging myself with more difficult patterns. I’m not sure how serious I am yet. I don’t want to half-heartedly commit to something, only to regret it later.

I really like knitting socks, usually. Sometimes I get bored if they’re just stockinette though, so I have to pattern them up to keep it interesting. Yours(or the Scientist’s) look great!
I’ve had the same thought about crafty improvement for 2013. I want to learn embroidery(something I’ve wanted to do for a few yrs now), along with magic loop or knitting on 2 circs. I’m better at learning something if another person shows me, though, so I’m not 100% sure I’ll get either technique.

Your Ulmus is BEAUTIFUL! 🙂 And I’m considering 13 pairs of socks in 2013. I’m also crazy. 🙂

Omg, Mara takes forever! It is a beauty though! Great socks too, I need to get to a heel and toe before Christmas on one more sock!
