What’s on my needles

Mara, Quince and Co Lark in Sabine

Mara: About two seconds after this post went up I ripped out the Shaelyn shawl I was knitting and used the yarn to cast on for another Mara (You can see my first here. It might be my all-time favorite shawl I’ve ever knit). This thing is going to be huge. There are over 500 stitches on my needles, and I still have several inches of ribbing to go. I’ve already ran out of yarn twice, and I’m worried still might not have enough.

Lacy Baktus, Pagewood Farms Denali in River Rock

Lacy Baktus: It’s all downhill from here – I’m over halfway done! This has become my back up project because Mara has kind of taken over, although since Mara has gotten so big it’s now the project I carry with me in my bag.

Garter rib toe up socks (pattern is my own), Madelinetosh Sock in Tern

Socks for The Scientist: My husband looooves handknit socks. I hate knitting socks. What’s a girl to do? Cast on a pair and keep them as my car knitting. This sounded like a fantastic idea, but given that the actual amount of time I spend in the car as a passenger is quite low, maybe not. I started these in February, and have only just gotten to the gusset on the first sock.

Abbi (this is an old picture, but not much has changed), Cascade Eco Wool in shade 8019

Abbi: I was hot and heavy with this cardigan for awhile this spring, but it’s taken a backseat and has become my movie theater project. As in I only work on this when we go see a movie at the movie theater. Which happens maybe 5 times a year. So I’ll probably finish this sometime in 2014.

What’s off the needles

Nothing! I haven’t finished anything in a couple weeks, but I’m hoping with a few days off around Thanksgiving I will bind off at least one project.

Current obsessions

Golden Wheat Cardigan – When this pattern came out I was kind of meh about it, but after seeing these two versions (the charcoal grey is by Tammykins and the neon green is by Usimarjaana) I really want to knit it. In neon green. With buttons all the way down. Her mods are incredible. And no, I do not care that I cannot pull off that color, thank you for asking.

Neon Ski Bonnet – Look at this adorable hipster wearing an awesome cabled bonnet. I am probably too old and definitely not cool enough for this hat, but I am tempted to try. I don’t even know where I would wear it. It’s way too warm in Houston for such a thing, and I already get the side-eye at work for wearing handknit hats. Weird girl gets weirder, I guess.

Woah! I LOVE that Neon Ski Bonnet. Although that type of thing is also probably totally impractical in Souther California…. but I will be in Michigan for a full 10 days in December, so maybe that should be my head-covering of choice?!

It was really fun to meet you! And I love that Golden Wheat (or both of them, rather). You should definitely knit!
