Rip it

Friday, 29 June, 2012

When your gauge swatch tells you lies

You must rip it

If your project will get no wear

You must rip it

When blocking won’t solve your problems

You must rip it

Rip it out

All the yarn

Wind it up

Back into stash

Ok, I’m done now*. And so is the sweater I knit a month or so ago. All that’s left of it are five little balls.

Immediately after casting off I tried it on and knew right away it was destined for the frog pond. You can fix some issues with fit with a good blocking but one thing you can’t easily fix is too big. And the collar wasn’t right. Good thing I have a husband who likes ripping out knitting.

I’m not upset by this. Ripping out and starting over are a part of knitting. I don’t want ill-fitting, unloved projects hanging around. I’d rather be realistic, rip it out, and try again.

*And ashamed. That was lame, y’all.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who makes up words to songs based on my activities or state of mind. Haha.

Aw I hate ripping out – whatever I need to rip usually ends up in a ball in the corner THINKING ABOUT WHAT IT HAS DONE. But you’re right. Sometimes you just have to rip it and move on. 🙂

I read that all to the right tune. I think, of the both of us, I should be more ashamed for getting it.

When you have to rip an entire project, there’s nothing lovelier than a husband who’ll do it for you! ❤ (been there. done that.)

I think by “lame,” you mean AWESOME.
