The unlazy days of summer

Sunday, 17 July, 2011

Life is so busy right now. So. Busy.

Summertime is basically when half the country collectively decides to visit museums. While this is great, it also means that those of us who work in museums have 9376384 things to do at all times. Couple this with a promotion I recently received, where I am working more hours than before, add in the usual things I have going on in my already hectic life, and what it comes down to is that I have tough choices to make: do I spend my limited free time knitting or blogging or releasing patterns?

Knitting wins. Always.

It makes me sad that I can’t do all three, but as it is I feel stretched and don’t have it in me to do much more. I need to make myself understand that I’m not superwoman. This is more or less a foreign concept to me.

I am still knitting and designing and finishing projects. Hopefully I can start to share some of them with you (in pattern form) soon, but for now it’s the one part that has to go on the back burner. I’ve put off blogging because I’ve felt like my next blog post should be when I release a new design. I still feel that way. Especially since the pattern is finished, but finding time to take photos I’ll be happy with is what’s holding me up. Remember when I alluded to the fact that I have a hard time accepting that I can’t do everything? Yeah, still having issues what that in this paragraph.

Summertime used to mean freedom. Hours spent doing whatever I wanted, hanging out with friends, going out at night. Now it is a delicate balance between my day-to-day responsibilities, work, and the small bit of free time I can carve out in between. It’s not easy. But I bet a lot of you understand this.

Since I don’t want to end this on a down note, here’s a picture of what I’m currently knitting.

Stripes + kate = true love forever.

I’ve recently discovered your blog, through love of Multnomah (sp?) I also work in a museum and spend all my free time knitting, an excellent stress reliever. Please continue to find time for your blog, and make your new patterns available as you can.

We all have to make choices honey. You are doing the best you can and none of us can do it all. Happy to see the post!
