Whisper Cardigan

My Whisper Cardigan is finally finished!

It took three skeins of Sundara Sock in Black over Violet, and four different sized needles. The sleeves were knit on size 4 needles, and the back was knit on size 2.5 (to make up for the change in gauge that happens when you switch from knitting in the round to knitting flat). Originally the ribbing was done on size 2.5 needles, but it was turning out rather loose and floppy. I ripped the stitches out and started again on size 1.5, which gave me the the fabric I was looking for. And the seam in the middle of the top half of the back was done on size 0 needles. Phew! I’ve never used so many needles on one project before!

As seems to be the norm with me, I made several changes to the pattern, the biggest being to sew a hem around the sleeves and the back. The plain stockinette the pattern called for would have curled no matter how severely I blocked it, and curled edges drive me batty. I don’t think the hem changes the overall look of the sweater. I also added three inches to the bottom half of the back to make it a little longer since cropped sweaters aren’t really my style.

Since it finished blocking on Monday I’ve worn my Whisper Cardigan twice. It fits perfectly, and rumor has it that I liked the pattern so much that I may have already bought yarn for another.

And by the way, the kitty in the picture is Cleo.

Finishing the Whisper Cardigan felt really, really good. I stalled on it for a couple weeks because I was having to force myself to knit. Even blogging about my knitting or yarn felt like a challenge. I think the no mojo phase has passed, so hopefully things will be back to usual around here.

I just love this sweater! It is gorgeous! What color will the next one be?

I’ve had problems with my knitting mojo lately as well 😦 I think the DiC Shrug is helping though 🙂

I love it! The color is fabulous. I think I’d go crazy knitting all that ribbing on such small needles but it was worth it!

Kate, you have done it again! What a beautifully made cardigan. Bravo! You may have just inspired me to pick up the Whisper cardigan I started before I went on holiday, yes 2 months ago!

Thanks for all your notes, they are very helpful.

Did you use up all 3 skeins though?
