Bad Knitting Luck

Sunday, 24 May, 2009

Imagine this scene: you’re sitting on the couch, in the middle of an episode of one of your new favorite shows*, and you go to start the next row of the cardigan you’re knitting. Instead of knitting the first stitch, you’re left with a lap full of stitches and a broken circular needle cable. That was my night last night.

The Kindred Knits Yoked Cardigan was going along swimmingly until that point.

The pattern starts out in a 1×1 rib for 2.5″, then 2×1 rib for 3″, and I was up to a 3×1 rib when the cable broke. Luckily I was able to save all the stitches that fell off the needles, but since I have no back up cable the project is on hold until I get another from Knit Picks. I could use a smaller cable, but since this project is knit from the top down I want to be able to try it on as I go along.

I recently bought The Essential Guide to Color Knitting Techniques by Margaret Radcliffe. It’s a beautiful, inspiring book, and I was so excited to get it. I wasn’t so excited when I woke up this morning and found my kitty Olive had put her own special touches on it.

Thanks, kitty. It’s so much better now.

*Battlestar Galactica. How is it that it’s taken me so long to watch this? My husband and I are both hooked.

Oh man, I feel your pain. What I’d like to know is why it’s always on the projects with tons of stitches that my needles or cables break. I empathize with you cat issue, too. I think my dogs finally grew out of their “Let’s destroy knitting supplies!!” phase, but the cat…..whew. I think he lives for destruction.

Oh Oh! Two bad knitting episodes…you know what “they” say – bad things come is 3’s…be on the lookout. Olive is just jealous because Mom loves knitting SO much.

Sometimes I’m thoroughly convinced cats are just extremely passive-aggressive and like to go over the top with ways of expressing this aggression they harbor toward… I dunno, you disturbing their sunning time in the windowsill or not feeding them exactly when they want it.

I also had a feeling you’d enjoy BSG. I dunno if my Dr. Who comparison on twitter was entirely accurate, but at the very least the outcome was good, right?

Oh, sorry about the mishap! Maybe it’s just the boring cardigan getting revenge on you for the abandonment…
