Lady in green

Wednesday, 15 October, 2008

Slowly but surely, the sweater I’m working on is taking shape.

I’ve jumped on the good ship February Lady Sweater, along with the 8500 other people on Ravelry who have finished, started or want to make this sweater.

Most of the lace work was completed while I was riding Amtrak’s Empire Builder to Grand Forks, ND from Spokane, WA, and on the way back again. I adore taking the train. To me it’s as much part of the vacation as the actual destination (which for me was ultimately Gretna, Manatoba, where I was visiting my sister).

This is the only scenery photo I took the entire trip. It’s of Glacier National Park in Montana. The area where my sister lives is very pretty, but very flat. And as I’ve lived in the mountains my whole life I have no idea how to photograph flatness, no matter how pretty it is.

The reasons for the trip are in these two pictures. My niece, Caitlin, turned 14 the day I got there. She is growing up way too quickly, but is turning out to be such an amazing person. I am so proud of her. And despite our 14 year age difference, my sister and I are still so very close.

I’d give anything for us to live closer.

Updates will most likely continue to be sporadic. We’re scheduled to move into our house (yes, we found a new one, and no, I won’t show you a picture of it yet in fear of jinxing the deal) on Halloween, and then five days after that I’m leaving for Nashville for a week to both go to a work conference and visit my aunt. But everything should return to normal after that. I mean, there’s nothing happening in December, right?

OH GOD, CHRISTMAS KNITTING. I hope my family doesn’t mind getting IOU’s this year.

Ooh, I love that green. And the teal scarf you’re wearing in the photo with your neice, is it from Target? If it is, I have it in that color and in pink. Great minds đŸ˜‰
