In which I may have accidentally bought some ugly yarn
I need your help.
On Friday I bought some yarn. The pattern I got it for doesn’t matter, but it’s the Candle Flame Shawl if you’re curious. The yarn, which is Shibui Knits, reminded me of bright autumn leaves. Yellowy-orange. Here’s the picture from their website:
Yes, it’s bright, but I thought it was pretty. I have several other colors of their sock yarn, which are gorgeous, so when this is what arrived my jaw dropped.
You know those tins of popcorn with the three different flavors? It reminds me of the cheesy popcorn. On their site it describes the yarn as bright neon orange, which it certainly is. In person the color is more florescent. In some light it looks kind of pretty, but in others it looks day-glow.
Maybe the color isn’t all that different. Maybe I’m overreacting because it’s not exactly what I expected. Please tell me the truth: is this yarn ugly?
Onto yarn that hopefully won’t turn out ugly. On Monday I stopped at Paradise Fibers in Spokane, and bought this:
The yarn is a bare merino/alpaca/silk blend, and the dye is robin’s egg blue. I’ve never dyed yarn before, but I’m really looking forward to learning. With all the beautiful yarn I’ve worked with lately, I feel inspired to learn. Not that I think I can measure up, but I can’t wait to play with color.
I left my Forest Canopy Shawl to block overnight, and I wore it to work today. It turned out wonderfully.
Andy kindly agreed to model it for you.
Don’t tell him he’s wearing girls clothing.
