New meaning to the term yarn porn

Monday, 18 February, 2008

Like most knitters, I enjoy my yarn porn. Pictures of other people’s stash. And I treat my own yarn stash like pornography: I keep it hidden so no one but me knows exactly how much I have, and it’s secreted away in more than one place.

This afternoon I went over to Spokane to go to a yarn store I’d never been to before. I got my directions from Google Maps, and knew the area where the shop was supposed to be. I got there, and was face to face with the East Trent Adult Bookstore. Huh? I drove into the back parking lot to turn around, and there it was: Paradise Fibers. I bought a few skeins for a shawl, and then put my sunglasses on and slinked back to my car, my illicit purchases under my arm.

This is where I keep most of my yarn. I say most, because there is also some in my bedroom, the closet and in the living room. On the right you’ll notice a vase with my straights, a pink metal cup with my double pointed needles, and in the back are my Harmony Wood Interchangables from Knit Picks. Then a Tardis poster, Spock doll from when I was a wee one, sewing machine, and print gocco. I would show you my yarn (and I have some GREAT yarn), but my camera and I are fighting.

The Juno Regina Stole is coming along. I’m still working on the middle section, so although it is longer there really isn’t anything to see. I’ve completed 46 inches, with 22 left to go. Over 2/3 done! It will be beautiful when it’s done but. it. is. so. repetitive.

Wow. I envy your yarn organization. I really need to organize my stash and needles bad. My boyfriend’s grandma keeps giving me old skeins (mostly Red Heart, blah, but I guess I can make something out of them). The small Rubbermaid box isn’t cutting it anymore.

But ideally, since I haven’t unpacked everything in the apartment I moved into in August of last year, yours was the sort of set up I was looking for for my yarn and craft stuff.
