About
Hi, my name is Kate.
For most of my life I lived in the Northwest, but in December 2010 I followed my heart to Houston, where I’m constantly confused by the fact that there aren’t coffeeshops on every corner. Despite the heat and humidity I wear my handknits even more in the South because there are two seasons here: winter and air conditioning.
I love cool, cloudy days, both big cities and being in the middle of nature, reading (primarily non-fiction), U.S. presidential history, and train travel. I want to high five myself every day because I get to spend my life with the two coolest people I’ve ever met: my husband, the Scientist, and my stepson, Charlie.
The day before Thanksgiving in 2004 I bought the first Stitch n’ Bitch book, a pair of size 6 needles, and some Red Heart yarn and told myself I wasn’t moving from my chair until I taught myself how to knit. A month later I was casting on my first sweater. In April 2009, after not being able to find a pattern that fit the idea I had in my mind, I knit my first design. Designing is now my primary focus, with an emphasis on texture and small details.
Like most knitters I go though phases. Sometimes my needles are busy knitting cardigan after cardigan, sometimes there’s no such thing as too many accessories. But the one constant is wool. Always wool.
Let’s be friends!
