I actually *loved* doing the nupps, the knitpicks needles were just sharp enough. If I remember right, though, you make five stitches out of one, and then purl all five together. Doing it the way you said (purling 5 of the 6) would have you increasing one each time. It's been awhile since I knit it, but you might want to take a second look at it. It’s gorgeous!
